Eventually he got to the point where he thought he was invincible. Everything he did, up to that point, was a success, so that when he began to make mistakes, serious mistakes, he blamed everyone else except himself. He refused to listen to advisors. He fired everyone who defied him. As far as he was concerned, everyone in his country, for whom he did everything, were unworthy of his greatness. He no longer cared if they all died.
